I liked that they had the old school jerseys on. They should wear those every game.

Awwwww. Poor Philly. It couldn't have happened to a scumbaggier team. Flyers shake up roster From News Wire Services 10/19/2006 TAMPA, Fla. - A day after the second-worst road loss in their history, the Flyers on Wednesday waived veteran center Petr Nedved, who had been one of their better penalty killers, plus right winger Niko Dimitrakos and defenseman Nolan Baumgartner. The 1-4-1 Flyers, buried in last place in the Atlantic Division, were humiliated, 9-1, in Buffalo on Tuesday.
"I thought we, well, I can't even describe what I'm thinking," Flyers General Manager Bob Clarke said, adding that something had been missing from the team since training camp.
He said that although "our emotions as a team were good" in two games against the New York Rangers, "our competitive emotion is just not consistent."
"This is something we have to get to the bottom of and find what the problem is," Clarke said.
Clarke changed a third of his roster over the summer to add goals and get quicker on defense. Neither has occurred. The team has just 12 goals in six games.
"You have to figure out why what happened, happened," Clarke said. "I want to know why we can't even compete with Buffalo, which is the best team in the league right now. How come when we play a great team like Buffalo, instead of it bringing out our best, it brings out our worst?"

I LIKE TO EAT PIZZA AT THE GAME TOO AND YELL AT PEOPLE FOR NO REASON. THEN I GET ANGRY AND BLAME MY FAMILY WHEN THE SABRES GET A PENALTY FROM DON KOHARSKI.
BLAU! NU UH EEEE! 27 TICKETS LATER. WHY DO PEOPLE CHALLENGE ME? WOW! I'LL DESTROY HIM WITH MY LUGZ! CHRIS JERICHO IS WEAK! NU UH! EEEEE! WOW! BLAU! BLAU! BLAU!

I went to Sabres game and Bills game this weekend. Nobody cares about the Bills. I'd even say I like Dan Marino over Losman just to make Cosmo Smile.
On Cartoon Network on Demand the episode "Super Sayin Achieved" is playing. It's the one where Vegeta finally achieves status because he "doesn't care anymore if he lived" and then flips out.
Buffalo is a Sabres town now. The Bills will be gone in 5 years. But I'll beat them to the punch as after my lease is up I'm out of this town.

Western NY (Rochester and Buffalo) as a whole is an ok place to live. The economy sucks and the weather is miserable. The Southern Tier on the other hand is borderline pre-historic. One thing WNY does have going for it is that the real estate is dirt cheap and the suburban school districts are good.

John Buccigross article on ESPN.com, listed his top 5 power rankings in the NHL... Sabres were #1 -- has wood for Miller, as most of us Sabres fans do
1. Buffalo Sabres: Duh. Speed, mobile defense, depth and one of the top five goalies in the NHL. (That's another list for another time.) If the top three lines played without names and numbers on their backs, it would be hard to differentiate the nine skaters. They have skill, speed and a sameness that makes them very fluid. They also have some policemen to protect those nine. Buffalo's defensemen all play about the same amount of minutes, and they all move well. But, with any good hockey team, if it's not backed up by great goaltending, a team is not great. Ryan Miller has the ideal goalie physique, temperament and game to play for this team. When you have a goalie like Miller, it allows you to play aggressively. His stats won't look as though he's one of the best, but he is.

Miller had an outstanding game last night. One clanked off the crossbar, but he stopped a lot of point-blank shots. He was ON.
I usually don't like it when I don't hear Rick Jeanerett, but the play by play guy had a great line on Novotny's goal. "Novotny scored his signature 'off the goalie's shoulder, over his head, trickle into the net' goal." Classic.

thats the record for longest winning streak to start the season. That was back when the nhl didnt have the General Tso's Chickening shootout after games. To but it in sabres terms your streak would have reached zero games because it would have been a tie at carolina. The Leafs record should not be touched unless you win the games in regulation in overtime. Sabres record would be 6-0-3 (for all you hockey fans who just started paying attention that third number is ties).
That being said i think it would be fair to create a new record for the new rules.
P.S. Jim62 and BonnieBall invented the shootout

The NHL will honor the winning streak with no asterisk. Let me guess south, you probably would've been one of the guys sending death threats to Roger Maris too, right?

No matter how you look at it, the Sabres are undefeated.

I can see the maris comparison because he had 8 more games to do it than the babe but thats a little different. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_run <--great info on the home run. But back to hockey, I liked it better when it was a more physical style. I watched for the hits and fights, as well as the great skill players. Now you only see a good hit every other game and players like Martin St. Louis or Brian Gionta who get to skate around all day and dont get touched because of the stupid new rules. It was better when people didn't touch star players like Gretzky, not because of 2 minute penalties, but because you would gett your ass kicked by Marty McSorely. I know alot of people like these high scoring games but they are not exactly drawing in the crowds. These rules help teams like the Senators and Sabres but they have made the game less fun to watch. Stop enforcing all these new rules so much. Special players will still have highlights, teams will still score goals, and no one will confuse it with figure skating with pads.

Regular season games 5 years ago played like playoff games do now. The let more shit go during the playoffs and it makes it a better game to watch.
