JP Dumont is now a free agent. The Sabres did not agree to his $2.9 million dollar contract. This is not very surprising, but sad nontheless. I was a big fan of his. Gorgeous playoff beard.

Sad but reasonable. Dumont had to go.
Still, Michael Grosek for Doug Gilmour and Dumont was an amazing trade.

I still can't figure out how that trade was pulled off. Grosek was terrible. It's really too bad about Dumont. I liked him and he'll be missed. I feel like he just died and we're all standing around talking about what a great guy he was. RIP JP However, he'll never be as cool as this #17

Good trade, still think one of the better ones in our lifetime was Turgeon, Uwe Krupp, Benoit Hogue, and Dave McLlwain for Lafontaine, Wood and Randy Hillier....Hasek for Stephan Beauregard and I believe a pick that turned out to be Eric Daze wasn't too shabby either.

Darcy was just on WGR and said the Sabres have already offered JP a contract. He's obviously a free agent, but the door isn't shut on him returning to Buffalo.

Oh, that's a good point. I didn't even think about that. He will probably get a better offer elsewhere though.

After seeing the pic of Carolina Hurricanes forward Kevyn Adams holding the Cup, it just stuck me. I went to Berrafato's today for lunch on Main St. in Clarence and I saw a guy eating that looked really familiar. I figured it was just someone I knew from Clarence but I didn't bother to say anything. It was that hick prick, fuckin Kevyn Adams.....he's from Clarence, NY

DUMONT SIGNS WITH PREDATORS
One of few remaining big-name free agents has found a new home.
Despite reports of interest from the Detroit Red Wings, unrestricted free-agent winger J.P. Dumont signed with the Nashville Predators, the team announced Tuesday.
The two sides agreed to a two-year contract that will pay Dumont $2 million this season and $2.5 million over the following campaign.
Dumont hit the open market in early August after the Buffalo Sabres passed on an arbitration ruling that awarded him a one-year contract worth $2.9 million.
In four of the past five NHL seasons with the Sabres, Dumont, 28, scored at least 20 goals. He had 20 goals and 20 assists in 54 games last season. He missed 10 weeks of the 2005-06 season after undergoing sports hernia surgery.
Adios JP

I held out hope for him to return to the Sabres. Even in today's paper, Bucky Gleason talked about how it's the best decision for him. He could have stayed if he wanted to.
So ends the blockbuster trade of Michal Grosek for Doug Gilmour, JP Dumont, and $2 million.

Great year could mean divorce for Briere, Sabres by s dot carter BevelWagon Global Moderator
Would you rather Briere register 100 points this season or 75?
Seems like an easy question until you consider the consequences.
Because if its the former, count on Briere joining Jay McKee as former Sabres' who got their big payday somewhere other than the Queen City.
So before you answer that question, ask yourself this: With a 43 goal, 100 point season (Briere's projected stats for a full 82 games last season), what will Briere command on the open market? Will it be $5MM per year? $6MM? And how many years?
One could pull their hair out trying to figure it out.
Considering Martin Havlat earned a $6MM paycheck from the Chicago Blackhawks after scoring 16 points in 18 games and Mark Savard netted $5MM annually from the Bruins for 97 points this offseason, its anybody's guess.
Someone order me some Rogaine.
The Sabres spent significantly more this summer than anyone, themselves included, expected. The team that has been strapped in recent years by bankruptcy found themselves in a salary quandry after many skaters put up career numbers.
An NHL-high 12 Buffalo Sabres' filed for salary arbitration and after Briere cashed in on a very player-friendly decision, Sabres' GM Darcy Regier decided it was best to negotiate without the 'help' of the arbitrators. Yet the Buffalo payroll continued to climb into unchartered territory for Regier and company.
But after coming just 20 minutes and a Rory Fitzpatrick blindspot short of their first Stanley Cup Finals appearence since 1999, Buffalo management couldn't tear apart a team that has a great chance at a Stanley Cup in 2007.
So they spent, and they spent, and they spent some more to keep a great young team together. Their reward may come in June 2007.
For now, the questions Sabres' fans may be asking themselves are 'what happened to the NEW NHL salary structure?' and 'what will happen next offseason when both of Buffalo's captains (don't forget Captain Clutch Chris Drury) are due to hit the open market?'
Its a shame the Sabres' probably won't be able to afford to keep both players in blue and gold. What did happen to that NEW NHL salary structure?
Boy, I wish I knew.

Sabres new jersey accidentally leaked on Sabres.com earlier today. I like it a lot, especially the number on the front of the jersey along with the back

The number on the front is cool... but where are the additions Darcy spoke of? Where are the sabres, as in swords?
