Alright, here are my thoughts on the game. Although Culpepper made two huge mental mistakes at the end, he never should have been in that situation to have to heave it up. Up until that point, he was managing the game well. Not great, but well. The problem on this team was and will continue to be their secondary. They were terrible last year, and by getting rid of Sam Madison they will be worse this year. They made Charlie Batch look like an all star. Huge mental let down at the end. The defensive line will have to put a lot more pressure on the quarterback to take some of the pressure off this young (and not very good) secondary. And the offense will also have to put more points on the board because this defense is not going to be very good. Translation: Dolphins suck and are not a Super Bowl team No, the Dolphins will still win the superbowl. Nick Saban will whip that team into shape. Expect a big bounceback win against none other than those Buffalo Jills. Let the trash talking begin...

Disagree Cosmo, you're biggest weakness right now is your O-line. Ronnie Brown rushed for 30 yards on 15 carries. Culpepper was pressured most of the game. Plus his arm has no strength right now, probably because he's not planting hard with his leg. He threw some floaters out there.
Your D also gave up some serious rushing yards, setting up the passing game for the Steelers.

I didn't think Culpepper played too poorly. He should have paid attention to the Chambers Ratio though. Ronnie Brown did only have sixty yards from scrimmage, but that could be due to Pittsburgh's solid defense.
If the Dolphin secondary makes Charlie Batch look that good, I can't wait to see JP tear it up next week. Buffalo Bills after two weeks: 2-0 and alone atop the AFC East.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino has come out of retirement to sign a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers, allowing him to officially retire a member of a franchise that won 4 Super Bowls during his storied career. Marino, in an emotional ceremony, said he was happy to finally be able to retire a winner.
"This is a special day for me and my family," Marino told the attendees. "We have always respected the 49ers organization and the 49ers way of playing football. To be able to retire a member of the team that won 4 Super Bowls during my pro career is an honor. I feel like a true champion now, even though I never technically played on any of the teams. Whatever. The strength and conditioning coach didn't play either, and they gave him a Super Bowl ring."
The signing brings closure for Marino to a career spent admiring the 49ers from afar.
"I guess it's just one of those things where I felt like I was a member of the organization even though I wasn't playing for them," he said. "To have to retire a Dolphin was rather heartbreaking. It felt wrong. It felt incomplete. Now I've finally come full circle, from a player who could never win a Super Bowl to a player signing a one-day contract with a team that's won several. Move over, Joe Montana and Jerry Rice. You're going to have some company in the Ring of Valor or the Circle of Awesomeness or whatever the hell you call it here."
Standing next to Marino was 49ers owner John York, who congratulated the Hall of Famer for finally "coming home."
"After many years, Dan Marino has finally come home," York said. "Dan, we welcome you to the San Francisco 49ers organization. You truly are one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the game. This is where you belong. Don't worry about the fact that you're 20 years too late and had nothing at all to do with the organization's rise to prominence. If we all worried about that shit, half of us would even be here." "
Marino will be honored in a special halftime ceremony during the 49ers' home opener on September 17th. He expects the day to be an emotional roller coaster ride.
"Oh gosh I'm going to be a basket case that day," said Marino. "Anytime you get in front of the home crowd like that and get an ovation it's pretty overwhelming. I've had a great career and been very blessed and I do feel like I've earned the opportunity to do one of these one-day contract stunts. I know you're supposed to do it with a team you actually played for, but I don't think it really matters. Either way, it's pretty much pointless."
In Miami, the news of Marino's decision to retire with the 49ers was greeted with shock and resentment. Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga ordered Marino's number un-retired and awarded to long snapper John Denney. He also ordered Marino expelled from the Dolphins Honor Roll.
"This is a stab in the back to everybody in this city and organization who supported Dan," said Huizenga. "I really hope he rethinks what he's doing. As of right now his number is no longer and retired and he is no longer in our Honor Roll. He's a traitor. And to think he once represented this organization so proudly in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective."
Marino is the second player in the past month to sign a one-day contract with the 49ers. The other was Jerry Rice, who actually played for the Niners for most of his career. Rice claimed to have mixed feelings about Marino's second retirement.
"Well I think it's nice for Dan because he was always a champion to me regardless of whether or not he won a Super Bowl," Rice said Tuesday on his radio show. "It's just strange because he never actually played for the 49ers, and that's kind of disrespectful to the players who gave years of their life to this organization. Plus him being here, even for one day, means we're probably not going to win the Super Bowl this year."

The Brushback = A sports related and completely not funny version of the Onion. And it's not just the Dan Marino article that made me dub it not funny. I get crappy emails with stupid brushback articles all the time that I now delete before wasting my time trying to find funny parts because they just aren't there.

Agreed, and I think I even said the same thing last week. I thought my Culpepper article was funnier than any Brushback article I've ever seen. Then again, I'm a bit biased

Yeah, that article sucked. It was too long and not funny. It's like something some 50 year-old, non-football fan, who thinks Larry the Cable Guy is funny would enjoy.

I just dicovered brushback when Wu posted the Bills story last week. I thought it was funny once I learned it was fake. I hate it when I miss the memo about things not being funny. I will be sure to reprimand my Bevelstaff.
However, anything mocking Dan Marino will always be funny to me.

the concept is funny and clever, its just not humorously written and is way too long. But the opening paragraph that he retired a 49er was entertaining.

What to expect on Sunday from Mike Mularkey, the Master of Misdirection:
Buffalo cannot stop the run so any offensive coordinator worth his spit knows to run the ball right down the Bills' throats. Ronnie Brown should have a great day.
However, that's what the Bills are EXPECTING the Dolphins to do, so expect Duante Culpepper to come out firing and exposing the rookie Buffalo secondary.
But knowing the Bills know Culpepper will come out firing, exploiting the secondary, Ronnie Brown is sure to run the ball down the Bills throats.
But if I can figure that out, certainly the Bills can. Mularkey, again the Master of Misdirection, will always be one step ahead of the Bills so there's really only one reasonable outcome:
Four quarters of nothing but flea-flickers.

The Bills made Daunte and the Dolphins their bitches today. For that this thread should be deleted once and for all.

I probably should delete this thread to save myself from the abuse I'll take. But I can take it. Culpepper is still in last season before his injury mode. I'm officially worried. I'm not going to throw in the towel yet, but a couple more games from him like yesterday and I'll be screaming Harrington from the mountain tops.
I didn't even get to see the game yesterday because I was still up in Yonkers after watching the Yankees / Red Sox game and then stopped off in the Meadowlands to watch the shitty JETS play the shitty Patriots. But as of right now both of them are playing less shitty than my beloved Dolphins. I tried going to a bar to watch the game but the doosh bag bouncer wouldn't put it on. Thankfully I have Sirius so I could at least listen to it, but the game made my ears hurt.
