I think before we get too far into this new board we should have a discussion on the long term future of the board. It is obvious proboards is not going to let us have the type of board we want and living in fear of it being deleted is not fun either.
Anyone have any imput on this issue? Should we focus on a long term plan before we get too deep into another proboards board?

I think that is a good question wutang. I am not sure what other boards, especially free ones, are available. I know you can buy website names and such easily, but not sure how to construct a message board ala here. Anyone with a compsci background that can lend some knowledge?

I'm in the same boat with you boys. I have no clue how to do it either and I definitely agree that proboards won't let this be the board that we want it to be.

Should we focus on a long term plan before we get too deep into another proboards board? Let me add... I think it's OK to look for a long term answer, but I also don't see a reason to hold back on this proboard one. Hell, the old board lasted a few months and we all said some crazy $hit. I think though that by mid-September though we should have a permanent, long-term solution underway. Just my 2-cents.

I'd like any info anyone has on starting their own website. I mean more than just purchasing the rights to a website, I'm talking about a big site with multiple servers and whatnot.... I just don't know what it takes to get one going?

this website i posted yesterday www.phpbb.com says it takes care of all the actual coding and such for a message board. I am not that knowledgeable on it but from reading it it looks like all you do is download it then ftp it to a site and you have a ready to go message board. Maybe Heemee can play around with it on his site and see if this is an option? I think this would be the forst step even before we talk about hosting it somewhere else.

I think every free board hosting services have the same Terms of Services. I checked it out. Wu-Tang, to make the kind of board you keep mentioning you need a dedicated server and bandwidth. That stuff isn't cheap and is difficult to run. Proboards does all the hard work for us. I don't know if we would even be able to keep one running properly without people working hard on it daily.
If anyone knows how to do this, then let's do it. But like someone else said, that's absolutely no reason to change our posting habits on this board.
Heemeehead, what do you have to say about all this? You posted something on the BevelWagon fantasy board but the link didn't work.

I definitely think that we should do something other than ProBoards. Hey Olean Ron....this censorship shit and the shit that happened to BevelWagon 1 is right up Hef's alley. A nice little squib in an upcoming ish about what happened and a small check from the Playboy Foundation would mean that the BevelWagon could be hosted on a site that the Bevelators would pay for and control. Honestly, we were at 300 members and had become wildly more popular than the Bandwagon..... so the audience is definitely out there.
Aloha!

Just checked on Yahoo, and you can buy domain names there for $10 a year. I am not sure what it all comes with, but I'd chip in a buck or two for www.BevelWagon.com, which is available.
