Going back to SBU this past weekend and returning to my home--Garret Theatre--for Dr. Stephen "Doc" Gray-Lewis' memorial service, the concept of "legacy" has much been on my mind. When I was a freshman, several upperclassmen (and women) took me under their wing and really took care of me. Of course, I did the same and I learned that you always give back to those who come after you.
So my question to the BevelWagon is...what did you leave behind?
One thing I left behind, along with my friend Tim, was the Garret Theatre "initiation". KCBonnies can attest to this--we'd tell the freshmen that there was going to be an ititiation and it would be so painful, so horrifying, that it might scar them for life. When the cast party rolled around, we'd take them into the bathroom and say..."the initiation doesn't exist. We're just General Tso's Chickening you with you. Just scream and yell and walk out of here like it was the worst experience of your life."
KCBonnies told us that this weekend that "initiation" was discontinued because some freshman got so freaked out by it, he went to his RA and it got back to Doc. As Doc took KCBonnies to task, KC said, "But Tim Klein used to do it," to which Doc responded "TIM KLEIN IS NOT A ROLE MODEL!!!!"
So, basically, they had to discontinue something that never really existed in the first place.
Classic.
I also like to think that the current theater program--including a proposed theater major--was built upon the work my friends and I did during our four years here. Oh, and I also left behind a can of SPAM in one of my dorm rooms.

All my "legacies" are highly embarassing. I'm not proud of many of the things that I'm probably remembered for at Bonaventure. But there are one or two things that I suppose were good.
Some of my roomates and I were responsible for starting the co ed 18 pack race at Bonaventure that lasted a couple of years but probably has since fizzled out. It was a great time. We would have about 20 coed teams and each team had to race to finish off the 18 pack. The contest finished in around 45 minutes both years. The beauty of this event is that you created a very good guy to girl ratio and everyone was just absolutely shitfaced after it was over.
Mrsmiff, maybe you could bring this tradition back to Bonaventure this year.

Hey, it was college--everybody's young and stupid. That's what it's for. Why do you think they use the word "sophomoric"? Nothing to be embarassed of.

Mrsmiff, maybe you could bring this tradition back to Bonaventure this year. I placed a call to Rimrocka a couple weeks back from the spot of that 18 pack race, Cosmo. Such blurred memories! The nostalgia was overwhelming and I slurred out a remembrance message to my man. Actually, I spoke with you that night too. I don't know about any legacies I left behind, but I sure did some stupid shit while drunk. And mrsmiff, you should bring back the Super Happy Fun Time Show along with the coed 18 pack race. You would even be able recycle ideas from the original. Anybody have any copies of the Super Happy Fun Time Show? I would pay top dollar to watch that again.

Anybody have any copies of the Super Happy Fun Time Show? I would pay top dollar to watch that again. I know the executive producer of the show failed to keep copies of the show. Apparently they had copies of the show in the Koop Lab which were, according to the information I received, tossed about a year later. ('03-'04ish) I know I still have various footage from the show that I caught on camera but can't speak for the rest of the footage. ***some of my favorite segments were the Adventures of "Billy", SBU Cribs, poo dollar/package, ask a Bona Buddy and the easter Bunny going to see Santa Claus.

Aw, man...I wish we had a TV station when I was there. Such as it was, my friends and I spent a summer in New Jersey filming five episodes of "Edited for Television", which was our Bona comedy troupe. We did pretty well, for awhile--performing in the RC on occassion.
I love the idea of "SBU Cribs."

best moment of sbu cribs was when our 2 foot hookah "Mr. Burns" made an appearance as an antique vase that was passed down from generation to generation. It had a nice flower in it and nobody noticed.
Rim dressing up in the Bunny costume and seeing a mall santa clause at Christmas time was also one of the best. Along with Chewbacca in the library.

I would love to bring back a tradition like this, but as a grad student i don't know nearly as many people anymore. Most of my good friends were journalism students which doesn't usually mean any grad school. If i was to put this together I would be lucky to put together 2 teams. Maybe i'll give it a shot though. Last year this would have been a peace of cake to make happen. Getting older sucks.
