I was back at Bonas this weekend for Doc's memorial (great and touching service and Ron has already described) but I was struck about the change in the nightlife. A little background, I graduated in '97 and the normal weekend routine was cocktails starting about 1-2 on Friday and Saturday, house party in Allegany about 7-8 and the bars no later than 10:30. By 10:45 the Burton, Mad Dogs and the OP would be packed. Talking with Danny this weekend at the OP he said things have changed and his place is dead until midnight. When did the change begin? I am not saying it is wrong, just different. What has replaced the bar scene?
On another note, the girls dress alot more "clubbing" than they did in my day. That is a positive change!
And lastly, when you walk into a bar for the first time in 8 years and the owners of both bars great you with a hug and a free beer, you know you spent way too much time there as a student.

Mad Dogs closed my senior year (02), and that was when I would say we started going out later. For us the bars that were left got too packed and cost more then staying at a townhouse party or a house in town. Plus it is much harder to get under age people in anymore so that contributed to more things going on outside of the bars scene as well. I could only take club op for a few hours a night after Mad Dogs closed and we adopted it as the new place to go but I always ended up spending more money there too.

Sadly, I didn't make it out to the bars this weekend. I'll have to remedy that next time I return. Tim was keen on it, but by the time he was ready to roll out, it was like 1am and I was beat. God, I'm so old. I was a little tempted to bring my son with me, but chose not to. Tim was going to pretend he was a single widowed Dad and I was going to be his nanny...
