Univerity Message Board Policy

Congratulations on your new home! I've always enjoyed visiting the old bevelwagon and viewing SBU through different sets of eyes and was sorry to see that it had been taken down. I hope that this board is just as if not more popular then the last one. Unfortunately, sometimes when you deal with a large and varied audience you find yourself in an uncomfortable position. When one person’s views offend another person you end up having to make a choice. I have always found that the best way to deal with it is to be fair and even-handed. Ever since I have been responsible for the University’s Alumni Message board the policy has been simple. If someone complains about offensive material, then it’s gone. I’ve always tried to edit material rather then delete, but sometimes that is not possible. As I’m sure you are now aware I have been removing links to this message board from the University’s Alumni Message Board. Post subject: University Censoring Posts

This afternoon I posted a link to the new site of the BonaBevelWagon. Checking back a few hours later my post has been removed.

Why the censorship? What on earth have the alumni connected with the BevelWagon done to have a link to the new BevelWagon removed? Does the University fear competition because the BevelWagon has proven to be a wildly popular board while this board frankly.....sucks?

I'm posting the BevelWagon link again. I want it left up this time. There is NO good reason for censoring a link to another alumni site.

As I mentioned before my policy is simple. As a result, when the Alumni office received complaints regarding this message board I removed the links. I respectfully request that you refrain from reposting those links as I will continue to remove them.

I'm sure 100% of those complaints come from the Bandwagon, but I understand your position. I can only speak for myself, but I will not post anymore links to our board.

I hope you'll continue to visit, and maybe even privately let people know that this board exists, and we will continue to support the University Board and visit from time to time.

Thank you for explaining the reason for the deletion, and I understand your policy. That is more respect then the bandwagn has ever shown us and it is appreciated. I won't post the link there anymore either. It is a shame though that not only do the bitter bandwagoners control their site but they can also control what we post on your site as well.

Well, I'm disappointed but certainly appreciate Mr. Grossman's candid, timely and sensitive response. The fact that he visited the BevelWagon to explain is also appreciated . I'll drop the University Board/BevelWagon link matter and not pursue it further. However I will bring to Mr. Grossman's attention a complaint I have that involves the BandWagon and the University. A number of alumni ( including most of those who post here on the BevelWagon)
have negative issues concerning the Bandwagon. I daresay that there are as many alumni who have complaints about the Bandwagon as there those who have complaints about the BevelWagon. Since the University will not allow a link to the BevelWagon to exist on the University Alumni Board, I am asking that the University formally prohibit its employees from giving interviews or formally/informally sharing University-related information with the moderators (Bona91/Fox) of the BandWagon. Such discourse between University employees and the Bandwagon amounts to a de facto link.

I'm not trying to be difficult or petty by making my request...I'm simply asking that the University be fair in its dealings with both boards.
