I pulled this little gem off the Banned Wagon.
"According to The BV, freshmen admissions numbers have dropped yet again:
2003: 596 2004: 574 2005: 477 2006: 461
How can this trend be reversed? Losing 135 students and their tuition dollars has to hurt big time. I hope things can turn around. We also get into dangerous territory here by admitting students we may not want to because of the need for cash. Our admittmance rate of more than 90 percent must drop, too. I wish The BV was online so others could read the article."
Wow! Those numbers and the trend are downright scary. Can't keep going this way much longer before SBU is in very serious financial trouble (again). My personal prediction is that 15 years out it will be something like University of Buffalo - Olean campus.
I mean what the fuck is that nun doing?

continuation...
The goal should be 600 new admissions each year with a 65% acceptance rate. The way to do it is to can Clare College and bring back the solid "meat and poataoes" undergrad curriculum on which SBU had built a wonderful academic reputation in the past. A spanking new dorm with all the bells and whistles and a beefed up athletic program would really, really help recruiting. And talking about beefing something up......SBU recruiting just plain SUCKS.I think that the Director of Admisions needs to decide if he wants to be soldier (he's done tours in Afghanistan and Iraq) or work at SBU. May the nun needs to decide that for him. Last, be creative. How about significantly REDUCING tuition and making up the diffference by increased enrollment? Duh!
