I think $700 for a game system is too much as it is. I was wrong, though, when I said it was going to tank. Seems like sales are pretty strong.
Am I nuts, or do remember correctly that when the PS2 came out, they made a big deal on how you'd be able to upgrade it and turn it into a PS3 or something? That it'd be the last console you'd ever have to buy?

Remember when it was $100 for every new system? original Nintendo $100 and new games $40...now it's $600 and $40. How do the system increase that much, yet games stay the same or atleast moderately close? I prefer old school video games 9 times out of 10 anyways.

There was a really cool special on CNBC about the history of videogames, dating back from the 1950s (when a nuclear power plant on Long Island had an open house--don't ask--and they set up a "tennis" game on an oscilliscope) up to the PS3. Of course, I got VERY nostalgic for the Atari 2600. That was MY system. Kids today have no idea how lucky they are. We didn't have full-rendered 3-D figures--no, we had four color boxy figures.
My favorite Christmas was just like "A Christmas Story." It was 1981 and I had the option of either getting the Star Wars Imperial AT-AT (this thing was the holy grail of toys) or the Atari 2600. Both retailed for $100 (at this point I had long figured out the Santa Claus thing), so I could pick only one. I chose the AT-AT, because I felt that the 2600 would be around for my birthday, whereas the AT-AT might not. In the days before Christmas, I started regretting my decision.
So, Christmas morning comes and there's the AT-AT as promised. My sister and I open all of our presents and although I made out pretty well, I was still pretty bummed. Suddenly, my Dad goes, "hey...there's one more present behind the tree." So I get it and sure enough, I open it and there it was: the 2600.
The picture of my face as I opened it is my parents' favorite picture of me at Christmas. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year because of memories like that. Can't wait to make more memories with my son!

A friend of mine works as a manager at Best Buy. He said people were lined up outside in tents all week, as of yesterday when I talked to him there were at least fifty at his store. They need a picture ID to check in once an hour; if the person in line isn't there they lose their spot. He went and talked to the guy with spot 23. The kid, younger 20's, had been there since Monday and was all pumped about getting the Playstation. When asked what games he was buying, he said none. He was going to turn around and sell the thing on ebay and make a profit after missing work all week.
The only reason my buddy talked to the guy with spot 23 was because Best Buy was only getting 22 consoles. This guy's the first in line to NOT get a PS3. Of course, he didn't tell him. He told me instead.

That bid of 15,000 was bogus. If you click the bids, you can see the guy with the winning bid is no longer a registered user. He was banned for ruining auctions.
That being said, I have a PS3 in the trunk of my car right now. It's the 20GB system so I'm looking to get 1500-2000 for it. I paid a kid $450 for his preorder so my profit margin isn't as high. I'm going to try and sell it by tomorrow afternoon and use my share of the profits to buy the Wii tomorrow at the midnight release. I wanna keep that.

Well no bites yet on my PS3 locally. Some kid was going to give me $1500 but backed out. So I spent about 3 hours putting it on Ebay. It took me awhile because I'm not very good with Ebay yet. And it looks like they aren't selling very well. So I'm thinking I might be stuck with it. Oh well. This better be the best damn video game system EVER!!

In less than a month stores will have PLENTY in stock. They will be available to everyone who wants them before Christmas. Even the PS3's that are in short supply aren't making poop on Ebay. Trust me on this one. Anybody wanna buy a PS3???

Final selling price for my PS3:
$400 bucks cash, 1 Nintendo Wii, and 1 Zelda: Twilight Princess
So basically I paid $500 bucks for a Wii and Zelda. Oh well. I consider it a learning experience. I have to say, the Wii is a lot of fun. I played the Zelda game a little over Thanksgiving break. The graphics don't really blow you away, but that controller is a lot of fun. I thought it looked gay at first, but it really adds a lot to the gaming experience.

How IS the PS3 selling? I know there are a LOT of complaints, and the Wii has generally been getting much better reviews.
I predicted it would be a huge bomb. I'm not sure if I'm quite right, since it's been selling briskly, but I think that a lot of people are going to be put off when the new batch ships next month.
