I had to sit through Maine's last performance at Shea. He'd better come through tonight, since I'm not there to jinx him.
Speaking of which, I was at last Friday's game 2 at Shea. Pretty miserable ending. One of the highlights, though, was before the game we were behind the SNY set where Gary Cohen and Ron Darling were doing their pre-game show. Loudest chant we got going had to be the "Joe Buck Sucks" one.
I think I even saw those two smiling.

This game is going to kill me tonight. Still living at home and having to wake up doesn't help the matter. I would probably be halfway through a fifth of whiskey right now in an attempt to dumb down all other senses other then "skewed" vision. Then once the game began I would black out and win or lose it would still be entertaining. Instead I'm being gay posting on a msg board about what I should be doing.

Hey what were the Yankees doing for the past 10 days, oh yeah watching the Mets. Get a life. But I guess in the end my joke did me in.
My thoughts were the bats never showed up. I'm not gonna lie with Floyd up bottom 9 first and second, memories of Kirk Gibson flashed through my head. But he got his ankles broke by Wainwright and then so did Beltran, those were two nasty pitches. We couldn't hit Suppan he was tremendous. No excuses we got beat.
I'm just glad I'm not gay.

i'm going with the "shit happens" defense. The lineup made suppan look like jesus. And I have nooooooo idea what beltran was doing in that at bat. Wainwright is a punk. But endy chavez did make the 2nd best catch of the year.

why wouldn't Randolph bunt with runners on first and second and no one out and the pitcher spot up? I know you would still pinch hit there, but have someone other than Floyd come in and lay down a sacrafice.
Then you have 2nd and 3rd with one out and two shots to tie the game or win it with Reyes and LoDuca. A base hit would've tied the game in that situation, took away the double play risk and put a lot more pressure on a rookie closer.
Bad, bad move by Willie Randolph

I thought we'd have a Roy Hobbes ending. I even heard the music, but that's probably because of the one commercial that kept being replayed.
Real, real tough way to end the season.
Now I want Detroit to win because I've been to their stadium.

As crushed as I was, the Mets didn't deserve to win that series. With everyone harping on the Mets pitching all series it was the bats that were MIA.
Valentin was awful at the plate. So were Chavez and Wright. Reyes and LoDuca were inconsistent, and Green's hits were usually meaningless. Beltran, while he had some big hits, was not the stud everyone's making him out to be. You can't go down looking. He did it in the 8th inning of game 5 and obviously tonight. Delgado and pitching put this team in a game 7.
I agree with Sdot, though. Like Rim, when Floyd came up I was thinking Gibson. But after he struck out, I realized the smarter move would have been to bunt, and put some pressure on Wainwright, who had been a little wild at that point.
Fact is, the Cardinals had guys like Spiezio, Molina, Taguchi, Duncan that came up big. While our bottom of the order and bench got blanked.
Chavez had one of the best catches you'll ever see. He also had 0 RBI this series.
They had plenty of opportunities to put some runs on the board tonight. But, when you get shut down by Jeff Weaver twice and Jeff Suppan twice, you should be embarrassed.
Let's go Detroit.
